Yes I think that was about the first year I was getting really really interested and really noticed in hockey 1980. I was always small but was always best skater so as a defenseman was often overlooked but I played the best AAA teams even though we called them A then. but I was never the guy they said would play Junior. I was too small.

It was a simpler time. Poor kids could play rep hockey as we didn't travel much House league teams now have 5 trips a year as 12 years old - Rich mans sport now. My dad was also VP of league then so as a really poor kid himself he found a way for poor kids to go on road trips.

anway. I think I was playing Midget then and High school also so was on ice 7 or 8 times a week and I loved practice and I am sure I was out on lake too. So just loved it and played it a lot with good coaches - JUst was playing so much I got a lot better and of course this was all pre beer and girls.

How did I make Junior on the best team in a generation. was playing JUnior B the next year say 1981 - 2 guys got hurt I got called up. I dropped the mitts first game beat up a bigger guy - ya see I wasn't big but I was very bowlegged like many hockey players and you are very stable on the skates. I really didn't even know I could fight as you do not do it in Midget ( minor Hockey) or on High school. I stayed with teh good team going the 43 wins

I fought a bit but not a lot as it hurts your hands and if you are losing your face LOL

LOve Hockey still play. NOt very good now but im 60 . Canadian Kids just grew up Hockey. yes lots o USA Places pasionate High school in The east and midwest crazy as is college.

I contacted Wisconsin after a scout suggested I do after 3 years junior and my 2 very nice goals and they told me yes great come on over - No scholorship you can walk on as they call it. full cost for me with a possible 1/6th scholorship which would be about 5 times my local college
